Obituary

Walter Rean Henderson Lackey was born to Linzie Madison Henderson and Oatie Lester Jones on December 7th, 1943, in McKinney, Texas.

Rean was the fourth of five children and the middle daughter. At 9 years old Rean and her family permanently relocated to California, where she met the love of her life when she was 12 years old. She met Patrick Lackey at church, and from that moment on she made sure to be wherever Patrick would be. On Christmas Day 1960 they were married in that same church in front of all their family and friends Patrick was 20 and Rean was 17. Two years later Rean graduated from Tulare Union high school in June 1962 and July of the same year she gave birth to their first son Bobby. Walter Rean went on to have various jobs and welcomed 3 more children, Lisa, Deanna and Raymond. Walter Rean made Ducor California their home in the late 70s. When their youngest was 4 years old Rean decided to revisit the plan to become a nurse and applied to a psychiatric technician program. In 1980 she began work at the California State Hospital in Porterville, California where she retired in 2005. After retirement Rean and Patrick moved to Elk City, Oklahoma to be near their son Raymond and his family. Over the next 20 years the rest of her brood followed suit.

Rean was a very active member in the Church of Christ and held on to her faith in God through all things. Rean loved the 4th of July and due to a clerical misunderstanding was almost drafted to the US military at 18. She enjoyed crochet, and sewing, reading, "the holidays with food, which is all of them", spending time with her kids, grand kids, great grand kids and Sister Kathy. Every Thanksgiving she made a dozen or more loaves of home-made bread for the family, always remembering who loved which flavors.

Walter Rean accepted her wings May 27th, 2025, at 81 years 5 months and 20 days, in her home surrounded by family.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents Linzie and Oatie Henderson, brothers LJ and Ted Henderson, one sister Arlene Cloud, son Bobby Lackey, and daughters Lisa and Deanna Lackey.

She is survived by her husband Patrick Lackey of the home, Son Raymond and wife Veronica Lackey, one Sister Oatie Katherine Delong, 10 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren totaling 5 generations.
