Vonetta Mae Herriage was born September 18th, 1932 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Naomi Alice (Hanks) and Jordan Clifton Wann. She passed away at Sayre, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 6 days.
Vonetta grew up traveling with her family spending time in Wheeler, Texas, various places in California, and finally in Sayre where she graduated from Sayre High School as part of the class of 1951. During her senior year she was married to James Paul Massey on August 31, 1950. Together Vonetta and Paul made their home in Sayre and was a seamstress for the public. She later was a clerk at Harts Variety Store and worked a number of years at the Tax Assessor Office surveying Beckham County. In the mid 70's she found employment at the First National Bank where she quickly was promoted to head teller and remained in that capacity for a number of years. Vonetta was one that never sat still and could be seen making connections and selling Avon to a large number of women in Sayre. In 1998 she retired and later met Gene Dunn Herriage and they were married on October 13, 1998 and remained in Sayre where Vonetta enjoyed crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Georgie; brother, Johnny; and one granddaughter, J.J.
Vonetta is survived by 2 sons, Paul Massey and wife, Barbara, Sayre, OK, and Bill Massey and wife, Gale, Flower Mound, TX; 1 daughter, Pauline Zybach and husband, Eric, Briscoe, TX; 7 grandchildren, Heath, Chanda, Jamie, Misty, Kyle, Kade, and Kelsey; 18 great grandchildren, Eme, Lundyn, Kash, Savannah, River, Austin, Ashley, Ethan, Marli, Russ, Rozi, Luke, Zack, Austin, Kate, Hunter, Wynter, and Roman; 1 sister, Alice Heroin; 2 special caregivers, Violet Bison and Peggy Gettles and a host of other relatives and friends.
