Truman Clayton Thetford was born September 5th, 1943 in Berlin, Oklahoma to Myrtle Emma (Hickman) and C.W. Thetford. He passed away Tuesday, December 27th, 2022 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 22 days.
Truman grew up in Berlin, Oklahoma where he attended school graduating in 1962. After graduation, he furthered his education at Sayre Junior College before enlisting in the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam era and served overseas before being discharged in 1969. When Truman returned stateside he returned to the family farm and took over the farming duties. Throughout the years he worked at the ASCS office in Cheyenne, and was a bookkeeper at the Beckham County Gin. He worked with nephew, Gary doing custom cutting, baling, and harvesting. It was during this time that he met his life long companion, Paula Sue (Foy). Together they attended barrel racing events, rodeo's, high school basketball games and play days all while making their home in and around the Berlin and Elk City communities. In 2010 Truman began to slow down switching from farming to ranching. Truman, being a calf roper, always enjoyed rodeo's, horse racing, and watching high school basketball games and spending time with his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings, Norma Williams, Joice Thetford, and Melvin Thetford.
Truman is survived by Paula, of the home; 2 children, Terry Jordan and wife, Rhonda, Elk City, OK, Tracey Jordan, Erick, OK; 4 grandchildren, Alison, Austin, Trinity, Ayden; 1 great grandson, Axxel and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that he so dearly treasured.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, January 21st, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Berlin Community Center. Everyone is welcome and invited to come and share your memories of our Truman.
