Tommy Joe
Scrivner
Jul 30, 1941 — Jan 8, 2025
Tom Scrivner was born on July 30, 1941 in Wheeler, Texas to Jess and Pauline Scrivner. He passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 9 days.
Tom grew up in Reydon, Oklahoma. He graduated from Reydon High School in 1961. He was working in the oilfield when he met Wenona Burch at a laundromat in Ardmore, Oklahoma. They married on June 29, 1964 in Reydon, Oklahoma. They lived in Oklahoma City, Ardmore and in 1977, they and their daughter, Tracey, moved to Reydon to the farm where he started his farming and ranching career. It was his favorite place to be.
He loved to golf, hunt and fish. He was salty at dominoes and checkers. He was a true cattleman. He knew each of his livestock by number or name. He checked them at least 2 or 3 times a day and if he thought one was fixing to have a calf he would sit in the pasture for hours just waiting to see if she might need some help. He was committed to all that he loved. After his bride of 57 years had a stroke and was able to return home he became her caregiver. He never complained. He rolled up his sleeves and learned all the domestic tasks that Wenona had always taken care of. They made a good team.
He took great pride in his two grandchildren, Thomas Wirth and Jaci Wirth Pence. Becoming known as Pops was one of his greatest joys, not only to his grandchildren but to his great grandchildren. He loved all of his nieces and nephews and always had a story to share.
He is preceded in death by his wife Wenona, his parents and brothers: James Roy Robertson, Lloyd Scrivner, Joe Yowell and Paul Ray Yowell; sister-in-law: Gallena Scrivner
Tom is survived by his daughter, Tracey and her husband, Jack of Plainview, Texas; step-daughter, Kim Ward of Norman; 2 grandchildren, Thomas Wirth and wife, Bryanna of College Station, TX, Jaci Wirth Pence and husband, Connor of Bryan, TX; 3 great grandchildren, Piper Pence, Wylder Wirth, and Mary Pence; sisters, Kay Powers and husband, John of Reydon, Gail Scrivner of Ardmore, OK, Nancy Clymer and husband, Frank of Wheeler, TX; brother, Jesse Scrivner, Jr. of Canyon, TX; sisters-in-law, Linda Scrivner of Sayre and Dana Yowell of Reydon; and a host of relatives and friends.
