Obituary

Susan Elaine Schmidt was born November 20th, 1952 in Clay Center, Kansas to Ruth Ann (Adams) and William J. Pearce. She passed away peacefully at Elk City, Oklahoma on Sunday, November 26th, 2023 at the age of 71 years and 6 days.

Susan, known by most as "Sue", grew up in St. Joe, Kansas and attended school at Clay Center. She graduated in 1973 and attended Cloud County Community College where she received her associates degree in nursing in 1976. During that time she was married to James "Jim" R. Schmidt on May 21st, 1976 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beloit, Kansas. After their marriage she continued her education and made their home in Beloit, Kansas where she worked at Mitchell County Hospital. In 1986 they moved to Springfield, Missouri where she was employed with Cox South Medical Center. In 1989 Sue and Jim made their home in Elk City where she worked for Great Plains Regional Medical Center as a case manager and infection prevention nurse. Sue received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2002 from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma before her retirement in 2020. It was during her time in the healthcare industry she was a member of the Oklahoma State Nursing Association and is still currently a member of the AEPIC Nursing Association. Sue always enjoyed reading, photography, vacations in the tropics, and traveling to Europe but her passion was her family and spending time with her friends. Sue and Jim are long time members of St. Matthew Catholic Church and were involved in the youth ministries and Sue was a member of the Women's Guild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Sheryl Fletcher; brother and sister in law, Stephen and Polly Pearce.

Sue is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; 2 children, Shawn Schmidt, Springfield, MO and Julie Western and husband, Wes, Elk City, OK; 4 grandchildren, Lindsay Prince, Sophia Schmidt, Aeries Western, and Aubrey Western; 5 siblings, Sandra Lyne and husband, Leroy, Stan Pearce and wife, Judy, Shelley Shivers and husband, Bill, Sharon Pearce, Scott Pearce and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
