Sherri Joan (Carpenter) Carlson was born on April 15, 1944 to George and Margaret Carpenter in Sentinel, OK. She passed peacefully from this life on November 25, 2022 in Elk City, OK.
Sherri grew up in Sentinel and Dill City, OK and graduated from Dill City High School in 1962. She married Don Lemke in 1963 and to this union their daughter, Khristy, was born.
In 1986, Sherri married Gene Carlson and for 36 years they have enjoyed life together at their home in Sweetwater, OK. They were blessed to blend their families together and delighted in spending time with their children Khristy, Shawn and Sheri.
Sherri and Gene traveled many a mile watching their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephew in their many sports and activities. Rodeos, football, baseball, basketball and racing were a particular joy.
After high school graduation, Sherri attended Southwestern OK State University where she received her degree in Education. Later she received her Masters Degrees in school counseling, administration and math.
Sherri taught 32 years for Burns Flat Public Schools as an elementary teacher, middle school teacher, and school counselor. Leading her students, she won numerous awards as an academic coach, 4H leader and Student Council sponsor.
As a school counselor, Sherri touched the lives of a multitude of students. Her passion for helping her students achieve their highest academic and life goals was one of her greatest triumphs. She was also a tremendous influence on her daughter and granddaughter Kourtney since they also both received their college degrees in education and school counseling.
In addition to teaching, Sherri got her real estate license and, up until her passing, enjoyed helping people find their forever home or that perfect piece of property. For several years, she was on the Oklahoma Real Estate Board of Directors and served as president on the Elk City Board of Real Estate Agents.
Sherri shared a passion for cars and racing with her brother, Michael. Weekends at the race track were always an adventure! Along with her sister Lori, daughter Khristy and granddaughter Kourtney, Sherri enjoyed shopping excursions, antiquing and numerous fun girl trips.
Sherri is survived by her loving husband, Gene Carlson, of the home; daughter Khristy and husband Johnny Stewart of Mustang, OK; son Shawn Carlson and wife Susan of Sayre, OK; daughter Dr. Sheri Finn and husband Brian of Ellensburg, WA. She is also survived by grandchildren Kourtney Locke and husband Jason, Tuttle, OK; Johnny Stewart III, Norman, OK; Cord Carlson and fiancée Andrea Maddux, Sweetwater, OK; Case Carlson, Sayre, OK; Calder Finn, Ailie Finn and Evelyn Finn, Ellensburg, WA. Sherri also was blessed to be great-grandmother to Kason and Krew Locke of Tuttle, OK.
Sherri will also be greatly missed by her brother, Michael Carpenter and wife DiDi; sister Lori Piercey and husband J.T.; nephew Tyler Piercey and son Wyatt; brother- in-law Dean Carlson and many other loving family members and close friends.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, George and Margaret, stepfather Pat Pyron, and in-laws E.N. and Geri Carlson.
