Ronnie Eugene York was born April 21st, 1943 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Beulah Ruth (Barker) and Durwood Melton York. He passed away at his home west of Elk City on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022 at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 1 day. Ronnie grew up in Sweetwater where he attended school and graduated in 1961. During his senior year in high school he was married to Lynda Fern (Burckhalter) on October 12th, 1960. They lived in Sweetwater before moving to Perryton, Texas. In May of 1963 they moved to Leadville, Colorado and then back to Sweetwater in 1966 where they made their home and raised their family. After the loss of their two sons in a devastating car accident they sold their dairy. Ronnie then began driving a truck cross country and eventually for Farmers Supply. It was during this time he obtained the CB handle of "Festus". In 1994 they moved to Elk City to make their home. Ronnie enjoyed reading books, watching westerns, and eating at the local restaurants. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sons, John Shane and Sammy Durwood York. Ronnie is survived by 4 sisters, Kula York, Elk City, Paula McKay and husband Boyd, Jolly, TX, Cheryl Foster, Hydro, OK, and Phyllis Abernathy and husband, Randy, Weatherford, OK and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to: Sweetwater Fire Fighters Assoc., P.O. Box 57, Sweetwater, OK, 73666. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25th, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Sweetwater First Baptist Church officiated by Larry Parvin.
