Roger D. Moyer was born April 29, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Joe Wilburn Moyer and Anna May (Rogers) Moyer. He departed this life on July 20, 2025 at the age of 84 years, two months and 21 days at OU Medical Center in Edmond, Oklahoma with his wife by his side.
Roger graduated from Merritt High School and went on to OSU to play baseball. He finished his undergraduate degree in physical education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. During his first year of teaching in Kansas, he knew he would soon be drafted so he enlisted in the Army. He served in the Vietnam war where he was in Army Security Agency . He received the National Defense Service Medal , Good Conduct Medal and sharp shooter badge.
Roger married Carolyn Gibbins on August 29, 1960. They were blessed with two sons Marc Branton in 1972 and Jody Lee in 1976.
Roger was honorably discharged in 1970 and they moved to Bartlesville Oklahoma. Roger continued his education at OSU, Tulsa University and OU. He had a masters degree in counseling, was a licensed professional counselor, a school counselor, a school psychologist and a school psychometrist. After he retired from Bartlesville public schools he was in private practice for several years in Bartlesville . Then they moved to Elk City to be near Carolyn's mother. Roger continued to counsel and work for Youth and Family in Elk City for several years. Carolyn died in 2008 after suffering heart problems. Roger married Nancy Buie on June 11, 2012 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Roger was proceeded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his sister, Joann Simmons and brother-in-law, Bill Simmons, and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Frank Myers.
Roger is survived by his wife of the home in Elk City, two sons, Marc of Fort Worth, Texas, Jody and wife Crystal of Elk City , one grandson Tyler Moyer of Elk City, a brother-in-law, Jamie Gibbons and wife, Linda of Yukon, Oklahoma, two special nieces Sheri Simmons of Nowata and Susan Simmons of Bartlesville, 3 step-children, 6 step-grandchildren, Bill and Marge Loope (beloved friends from the Army and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Roger was a soldier, a cowboy, a great father and husband and an all-around good guy.
