Ray Roper was born on August 27, 1933 to Garret M and Essie Mae (Knight) Roper in Vinson, OK. He passed on March 17, 2026 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 18 days.
Ray grew up in Lawton with his two brothers Ernie and Danny and sister Wanda. He attended and graduated from Lawton Public Schools. He became a lineman for Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) in Clinton, OK where he also met and married Loretha Fischer. They transferred to Thomas, OK and worked as the service man for 10 years and then moved to Sayre where he managed the Sayre office of PSO for 20 years until his retirement. He always proudly said he had climbed every telephone poll between Clinton and Binger. After retirement, he spent his time making little chairs for children, which Loretha complained that he gave away more then he sold. Ray was also a member of the Sayre Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Loretha Roper, parents Garret and Essie Roper, son Billy Roper, grandson Justin Roper, brother Ernie Roper and sister Wanda Smith.
Ray is survived by his son Mike Roper and wife Dawn of Blanchard, OK; brother Danny Roper of Elgin, OK and a host of friends.
