Obituary

Robert "Ray" Izard, was born February 18th, 1937 in Houston, Texas to Jacob Thomas and Olga Alvina (Klingst) Izard. He went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 86 on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023.

Ray grew up in Waller, Texas where he attended school, and in February of 1954, he joined the United States Marine Corps to proudly serve his country. During his years of military service, he earned the rank of Sargent E4 and was stationed in the Philippines, Guam, Japan, California and Oklahoma. It was during his time in McAlester, Oklahoma he met and married the loved of his life, Juanita Allen on October 4th, 1957. To this union four children were born. After he his honorable discharge, they moved to the family to Enid, Oklahoma during the 1960's where he worked in the oil field as a rough neck and driller. Later they moved to Wheeler, Texas where he continued his work in the oil field as a tool pusher and oil consultant for Nicor Drilling and operated his own crop-dusting business as Ray's Aerial Flying Service. In 1976 they decided to make Elk City, Oklahoma their home where Ray also drove his semi-tractor cross country before retiring.

Ray loved being outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, camping and flying. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Cherishing his memory is his loving wife, Juanita Izard, of the home; one son, Michael Izard of Laramie, WY; three daughters, Lynn Chatham and husband, Paul of Shingle Springs, CA, Debra Montgomery of Fort Lupton, CO, and Kathy McConnell of Ft. Collins, CO; two granddaughters; Nikki Sanders and her husband, Justin of Fort Lupton, CO, Rachel Pyle and her husband Chris of Folsom, CA; two great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Jacob Sanders of Fort Lupton, CO.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Olga Izard; one brother, Ronald Wayne Wilson; on sister, Gloria Ann Boydston.

The family would like to thank the staff of Comforting Hands Hospice for providing wonderful and loving care to Ray during his time of need.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 27th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Fairlawn Cemetery Chapel, Elk City, Oklahoma with Rev. Kevin Akins officiating. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
