Oweita Lee (Proctor) Calvert was born December 12, 1932 to Frank John and Flora Lee (Carroll) Proctor at Stafford, Oklahoma. At the age of 6 months, her mother passed away. She lived in several small towns in the early part of her life as her father was a section foreman for the Santa Fe Railroad. After her father remarried, and moved to Arizona to work in the copper mines, she remained with her grandmother, Elizabeth (Grannie) Proctor in Cheyenne where she attended school and graduated in 1951.

When she was a junior in high school, at the age of seventeen, she married Derward Calvert on December 24, 1949. She went on to finish high school and later attended Sayre Junior College. In 1966, she pursued her Bachelors of Science degree and then completed her Masters of Arts, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1968 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Oweita received her speech pathology certification in 1969 and her postgraduate work in Reading Literature from Central State University. Her passion for the sciences and reading literature would lead to an education venture as a science, history, and English teacher, and later reading specialist at Cheyenne Public Schools from 1966 till her retirement in 1994. Her tenure in the Oklahoma Educational System, as an educator and a leader at the state level, has spanned for over 45 years. In November of 2018, Oweita was inducted into the Western Oklahoma Historical Society Hall of Fame.

Oweita and her family moved to the farm in 1960 and in the following years added other farms. She helped with many tasks involved in the farming and irrigation ventures. The families are still farming in this area. For many years, the family were wheat harvesters, starting in southern Oklahoma and going to the Canadian border; they did this for 22 years. For a number of years, they owned airplanes and traveled to many states visiting or vacationing. Since that time they traveled with their RV. Oweita traveled to many states as a member of the International Reading Association.

During these years in Cheyenne, she was active with many community events and in the Cheyenne United Methodist Church where she was a member for 73 years. Oweita served as Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director and Liturgist as well as volunteered for other events where she was needed. She was a lifetime member of the Platonic Club in Cheyenne and served as president three times. Oweita was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Gamma Delta Chapter, of Roger Mills and Beckham Counties where she served as president for four years.

They have two children, Russell Calvert and wife, Darla and daughter, Debra Lippencott and husband, Steve. Together they had six grandchildren, James Calvert, Rebecca Leonard and husband, Steve, April Butler and husband, Greg, Coby Lippencott, John Lippencott, Clint Lippencott and wife, Marlena. Ten great grandchildren, Braygan Lippencott and wife, Kimberly, Lockland Lippencott, Emersyn Lippencott, Ashton Cockrell, Saylor Leonard, Grace Butler, Samantha Butler, London Lippencott, Everett Lippencott, and Lenora Lippencott.

Oweita was preceded in death by her parents, Frank, Sr. and Flora Proctor; step-mother, Ruby Proctor; husband, Derward Calvert; brother, Frank, Jr and David Proctor; and sister, Etta Mae Augenstein.

The family would like to thank Lucy Cunningham and Lisa Smith for the years of love, devotion, and care that they gave Oweita. They allowed her to enjoy her life at home.
