Obituary

Jeanette Marie Sampley was born May 8th, 1948 in Yukon, Oklahoma to Cornelia Agatha (Legaly) and Raymond Joseph Ast. She passed away at her home north of Canute on Monday, August 29th, 2022 at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 21 days. Jeanette, known by most as "Nana", grew up north of Chickasha, Oklahoma and attended a Catholic school where she graduated in 1966. On her senior trip she met a gentleman by the name of Gary Dwayne Sampley. A couple years later they met in Oklahoma City and were later married on September 14th, 1968. After their marriage they lived in Oklahoma City for a period of time before moving to Chickasha, Oklahoma where they made their home and began their family. After leaving, they moved to Bridgeport and Jacksboro, Texas, Hydro, Hinton, and Geary, Oklahoma before settling in Canute, Oklahoma in 1994. All throughout Nana's life she liked nothing more that to have a house full of kids and very few ever saw her without a smile on her face. She also loved sewing, quilting, knitting, making clothing, and anything she could do with her hands. She is preceded in death by her parents. Nana is survived by her husband close to 54 years, Gary, of the home; 4 daughters, Deane Thomas-Sampley, Elk City, OK, Lannie Hale and husband, Greg, El Reno, OK, Denise Thomas, Canute, OK, and Davaline Babb and husband, Robert, Sayre, OK; 13 grandchildren, Kaleb Rhodes, Taylor Thomas, Jordan Thomas, Wyatt Thomas-Sampley, Matthew Hale and wife, Faith, Dakota Thomas and fiance`, Katie Rogers, Nicholas Thomas and fiance` Lauren Peffer, Rebecca Thomas, Nathan Thomas, Tyler Gillespie, Keirsten Gillespie, Tiger Gillespie, and Kyra Gillespie; 3 great grandchildren, Serenity Rhodes, Kennedee Rhodes, and Emmry Thomas; siblings, Leon, Karen, Gary, Pat, Gerald, Dwayne, Cecelia, and Gene and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 4th, 2022 at 5:00 PM at the Canute Fire Department.
