Michael Ray
Sites
Sep 11, 1951 — Mar 26, 2025
Michael (Mike) Ray Sites, age 73, of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, was born on September 11, 1951, to Walter Ray and Betty Joyce (Benton) Sites. He was married to Sally Ann (Marriott) Sites on May 28, 1971, in Sayre, Oklahoma.
Mike grew up in Sweetwater, OK, where he attended high school. He started his career in road construction before moving on to drive trucks for Wally Motor Transports, Pucketts, and C&S. Mike also had a brief, yet memorable stint owning his family's dairy for two whole days. After moving from Beaver to Perry, and eventually back home to Sweetwater, he worked on his Grandpy Benton's farm and at the Sweetwater Cotton Gin. Mike later went on to farm full time, where his strong work ethic and sense of humor made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Mike was more than just a farmer—he was Sweetwater's unofficial neighborhood watch, a volunteer well-checker, and an occasional storm chaser. He never met a stranger, often assuming the role of self-appointed greeter at every event he attended—invited or not.
When Mike reached what he called "halfway," he seamlessly transitioned into his most prestigious role yet—consultant for Sally's farming operation. From that moment on, he made sure his wisdom was generously shared, regardless of whether she asked or not.
Leaving behind a lifetime of laughter, love, and unforgettable stories (some of which Sally would have preferred stayed untold), Mike had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend, though you could never quite predict what he might say – or whether he might "accidentally" run over your toe.
Later in life, Mike developed a personal relationship with Jesus, and his faith became an important part of who he was. He boldly shared his love for Christ and his joy of attending church with everyone he met, encouraging those around him with his newfound devotion. Mike was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, and was reunited in heaven with his parents, Ray and Betty Sites.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sally; sister, RaDonna Christopher and her husband, Jerry; children, Sheila Smith and her husband, Micheal, and their children Emily and Mason; Megan Thomas and her husband, John, and their children Jack, Luke, and Nate; Cade Sites and his wife, Brittney, and their children Anson and Mesa.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Buffalo Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Oklahoma. Interment will be at Buffalo Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Whinery Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make donations to the Sweetwater Fire Department or the ALS Association.
