Obituary

Melvin Alanson Davis was born on May 4, 1941 to Wayne and Beuna (Kingham) Davis in Wheeler, TX. He passed on June 23, 2026 at his home in Sweetwater, OK at the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 19 days.

Melvin grew up in Sweetwater along with his younger brother Jerry. He attended Meridian schools until eighth grade and then attended Sweetwater Schools. After high school, he worked various odd jobs and enlisted in the national guard. He was called into active duty where he served six months at Fort Hood in Texas during the Vietnam War. While in the service, he married Carolyn Jean Taylor on December 25, 1963 in Weatherford, OK and to this union one son, Terrill, was born. After faithfully serving in the National Guard, Melvin moved back to the farm in Sweetwater where he has resided until his passing. He started a small cattle operation and farmed cotton and wheat. Over the 60 plus years of farming and with his conservative nature he grew his operation. Over the years, he decreased his farming, but increased his cattle operation. He started with five momma cows and successfully grew to over 1800 acres with over 100 momma cows. He loved his farm and ranch and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Sweetwater First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Davis, parents Wayne and Beuna Davis, and infant grandson Kyle Alanson Davis.

Melvin is survived by his son Terrill Davis and wife Angie of Sweetwater, OK; four grandchildren Amie McCamley and husband, Roger, Ocala, FL, Mathew Davis and wife, Tory, Tampa, FL, Amanda Carder and husband Chase, Collinsville, OK, Megan Hook, and husband Andrew, Dripping Springs, TX; five great grandchildren, Roger McCamley, III, Liv Carder, Kyler Carder, Ellison Hook, and Anderson Hook; brother Jerry Davis and wife Orna Fay Davis of Sweetwater, OK; nieces Heather Davis of Sweetwater, OK, Jackie Hensley and husband Travis of Altus, OK, and Julie Frost and husband Bryan of Pampa, TX; and a host of extended family and friends.
