Obituary

Monte Max Montgomery was born December 31st, 1947 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Virginia Lois (Keller) and Marshall Ernest Montgomery. He passed away near Durham, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 23 days.

Max grew up in Durham, Oklahoma and attended school in Canadian, Texas where he participated in FFA showing calves before graduating in 1966. After graduation he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. It was during this time he met Janna Ruth (Shackelford) and they were eventually married on January 26th, 1969 in Guymon, Oklahoma. Later that same year Max was drafted into the United States Army. He completed his basic training in Louisiana and was assigned to be stationed in Germany where he was a duty assignment clerk. After his discharge in May of 1971, he and Janna made their home on the family farm northwest of Durham, Oklahoma. He immediately began farming and ranching which he continued up until his death. Max enjoyed arrowhead hunting, being a history buff, quail hunting, and fishing. He also was an extraordinary marksman, cattle breeder of Beef Master Cattle, and also a wild animal advocate. For the past 20 plus years, Max has served on the Metcalfe Museum Board and was currently in the advisory board.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Max is survived by his wife, Janna, of the home; 1 sister, Marsha Montgomery, Santa Fe, NM; 1 brother-in-law, William "Bill" Shackelford, Guymon, OK and a host of cousins and friends.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of their choice in Max's name.
