Mary Louise Sloat was born on January 17, 1951 to Verne Elmo and Cecelia Magdaline (Oidowski) Hulva in Peoria, Illinois. She passed December 10, 2025 at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 23 days.

Mary grew up in East Peoria along with her three brothers John, Chuck, and Frannie. She graduated in 1969 from East Peoria Community High School. Mary moved to Oklahoma in the late 1980s and met and married Robert "Bob" Gene Sloat. She opened up her own hair salon in Elk City called Adam and Eve. Mary operated the salon until she had a career ending injury. She went to Western Technology Center (WTC) and learned computer science. She used this knowledge to teach computer classes at WTC. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Club at the local and state level. She served on the officer team for seven years, finishing as the president of the Oklahoma VFW Ladies Auxiliary Club.

In her spare time, Mary enjoyed arts and crafts which included crocheting and jewelry making. She loved to read romance novels. Mary loved her family and spending time with them, especially when it came to her grand kids and her dogs (aka her babies). Her favorite things to do was to attend her grand kids school events, invite them over for sleep overs, and have pizza parties.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bob Sloat, parents Verne and Cecelia Magdaline, two brothers John and Frannie Hulva and many faithful friends (her dogs).

Mary is survived by her daughter, Aspen Miller of Elk City; two sons Robert (Amber) Petersen of Colorado and Josh Sloat of California; grandchildren Kellan, Harper, Keegan, Wacey, Wrigley, Bailey, Dillen, Grace, Luke, Kiara, and Josh; brother Chuck Hulva of East Peoria, Illinois; her dog Sparky of Colorado; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends, including Shirley and Kacy of Elk City.
