Obituary

Marion M.J. "Judge" Jake Owen was born January 17th, 1933 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Edna (Seier) and Alfred A. Owen. He passed away on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Judge grew up in the Reydon community and attended school at Midway. It was in the 5th grade that he was given the nickname of "Judge". The exact reason for the nickname is still undecided and there are many versions as to where it came. He continued at Midway schools until they closed and at that time he transferred to Reydon. Judge graduated from Reydon High School in 1951 and furthered his education at Oklahoma A&M University. Little did Judge know that he met his future wife back in 1939 when he started school at Midway with Oneta Marie Duke. On September 21st, 1953 they were married in Reydon, Oklahoma and continued to finish their college education in Stillwater, Oklahoma obtaining a bachelor of science degree. After their graduations they lived in Hale Center and Wharton, Texas before moving back to Reydon, Oklahoma in 1959 to make their home.

After moving back to Reydon, Judge took over his family's farming operation where he cared for the cattle, and raised hay. In the 1960's, he bought a wholesale fuel delivery business from his brother-in-law, Ike Duke where he delivered fuel under the company name of Owen Oil Company, to local farms and a few service stations. He continued to own and operate the business for the next 10 years until he returned to his passion on the family farm. Judge never formally retired and always had a strong work ethic whether that be on the farm or in the business world. Judge was an avid OSU sports fan, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, traveling, genealogy, putting jigsaw puzzles together, wood working, and going to the casinos with his friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Oneta; daughter, Sue Owen; and one infant brother, John Thomas Owen.

Judge is survived by his special friend, Donnie Eakins; 2 children, Mike Owen and friend, Susan Banks, Reydon, OK and Trudy Hartley and husband, Tim, Reydon, OK; 7 grandchildren, Susan Carlson and husband, Shawn, Crystal McEntire and husband, Randy, Kaelynn Owen and fiance`, Chad, John Owen and wife, Ondrea, Emily Seymour and husband, Adler, Abbey Malson and husband, Wiley, and Cole Hartley; great grandchildren, Cord Carlson and wife, Andrea, Case Carlson, Chloe Sue and Rance McEntire, Kyra and Creed Hindman, Maddie, Gracie and Miles Owen; Asher and Adley Seymour, and Talley Sue Malson; great great grandson, Callan Carlson and a host of other relatives and friends.
