Obituary

Lyndell Vaught, Jr. was born April 8th, 1951 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Margaret (Perky) and Lyndell Vaught, Sr. He passed away at his home near Carter, Oklahoma on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 1 day.

Lyndell, known to most as "Lynn", spent the majority of his school years at Elk City, but his junior and senior years were spent in Carter, Oklahoma. He graduated from Carter High School in 1969 and began working in feed lots and hauling hay in the Oklahoma panhandle and various other places. He worked for Pioneer telephone and later was employed by Carter Schools where he drove a bus and did janitorial and maintenance work. In October of 1998, Lynn's son passed away while he was working for Troy and Sharon Jones at Troy Jones Equipment so he took a break and began working for Jerry Hargrove at Jerry's Glass. Both of these families Lynn held a special place in his heart for. Having a knowledge of the oil field roughnecking for many years, he went to work for Cudd in the early 2000's where he did maintenance on many pieces of equipment. Lynn retired in 2017 and spent the majority of his time farming and raising cattle. Throughout his life Lynn had many jobs and title, but always thought his highest honor was being a "Dad" and "Papa". Lynn was a volunteer fireman and served as the Carter Fire Chief. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends......hunting and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Glenn Hunt; 2 sons, Cody Vaught and Mitchell Brown; 1 sister-in-law, Rhonda Vaught; 3 uncles and 1 aunt.

Lynn is survived by his wife, LaDonna, of the home; 3 children, Rodney Vaught and wife, Melissa, Willow, OK, Colter Vaught, Delhi, OK, and Heather Rutherford and husband, David, Elk City, OK; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Linda Cook and husband, Edward, Elk City, OK; 1 brother, Larry Vaught, Canute, OK; step-sister, Kathy Hunt-Wilson, and husband, Edward, Monroe, LA and a host of other relatives and friends.
