Obituary

Lyda Manell Sipes was born November 17th, 1932 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Effie (Ellington) and Eli A. Jones. She passed away Saturday, October 29th, 2022 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Manell grew up on the family farm northeast of Elk City, Oklahoma. She attended school in Elk City where she graduated from Elk City High School in 1950. After graduation she remained in Elk City and was later married to Francis Eulis Sipes on the family farm on February 8th, 1953. After their marriage they moved to different communities, Berlin, Oklahoma, Doxey, Oklahoma, Farmington, New Mexico, and Linton, Indiania before returning to Elk City in 1968 to make their home and raise their family. After returning, Manell went to work for Community Hospital as a nurses aid for the next 18 years until her retirement. She spent her retirement years as a farm wife helping raise grandchildren and she also enjoyed sewing, embroidery, gardening and cooking for her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Marie O'Hara, Lois Mollett, and Retta Osborn; 2 brothers, Clayburn and Earl Jones.

Manell is survived by her husband of 69 years, Francis, of the home; 5 children, Susan Hollar and husband, David, Apache, OK, Gary Sipes, Elk City, OK, Danny Sipes, Elk City, Pam Stokes and husband, Fred, Blanchard, OK, and Edwin Sipes and wife, Cheryl, Elk City, OK; 6 grandchildren, Candyce Shima, Devin McDaniel, Eric Diebel, Tavis Hollar, Heather Schulte, and Kelsey Wagner; 9 great grandchildren, Gabe McDaniel, Damien McDaniel, Nicholas McDaniel, Nakayla Hollar, William Hollar, Emma Hollar, Nicholas Hollar, Lillian Schulte, and Amelia Schulte and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the 2nd and Adams Church of Christ officiated by Rod Minor. Burial will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
