Velma Louise Jernigan was born June 11, 1945 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Velma Berniece and Jesse Lee Stewart. She passed away on May 8, 2025 in Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
Louise attended and graduated from Sayre Public Schools in 1963. She excelled in school and loved to play basketball. Her two greatest accomplishments were raising her two boys. She lived and worked in Sayre for most of her life. Velma loved children and worked at Head Start for several years before becoming an apartment manager at Concept Housing. Her favorite things to do were to hang out with her family, go fishing and watch Thunder Basketball or any sport that the OU Sooners were playing. She loved to go "push buttons" as she called it with her sister or do anything there was to do with her two grandsons.
She is preceded in death by her son, Jesse Dwayne Jernigan, her parents, her sister, Ruby Driver and her brother, George Stewart.
She is survived by her son Rodney Stewart, and wife, Shonna, Sayre, OK; two grandsons, Brandon Brown, and wife, Haven, Richardson, TX, and Jerod Stewart, and Mercy Phillips, Anchorage, AK; 2 great granddaughters, Remington and Elleanor Brown; one great grandson on the way, Beau Brown; sister, Brenda Safranca and husband, John and a host of other relatives and friends.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
