Leslie Howard Welch was born November 21st, 1937 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Rose Lee (Sanders) and Albert Lee Welch. He passed away Thursday, August 18th, 2022 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 28 days. As a young kid, Leslie moved to Sayre, Oklahoma with his parents. He attended school in Sayre where he was a part of the graduating class of 1956. After graduation he immediately began attending Sayre Junior College where he obtained his associates degree. Leslie was married to Helen (Whitledge) in Sayre on May 30th, 1959. They made their home in Sayre until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1960. After boot camp Leslie and Helen moved to Ft. Belvoir in Virginia for Leslie's time in the service. He served as an assistant to his colonel during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his discharge he and Helen moved back to Sayre where he began working on the family farm until 1962 when they moved back to Virginia. Leslie made a living building houses and completing remodel projects mainly for colonel's. They returned to Sayre in 1994 where they began their retirement. Leslie was one that could do just about anything and enjoyed collecting and trading guns and cars, going fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He was also faithful member of the Church of Christ in Virginia and also Sayre, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jackie Lee Welch and one nephew, James Welch. Leslie is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; 1 daughter, Leslie Cassandra "Cassie" Welch, Sayre, OK; grand-dog, Lily and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022 at Berlin Cemetery officiated by Billy Clabaugh.
