Obituary

Larry Julius Shearin was born on August 4, 1942 to James Horace and Evelyn Lee (Griffin) Shearin in Portsmouth, Virginia. He passed on November 5, 2025 at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 1 day.

Larry grew up in Roanoke Rapids, NC as the oldest of his four siblings, brothers Donald and Bobby and sisters Francis and Judy. He attended school at Roanoke Rapids. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Larry first served as a fire fighter in England. He was transferred to Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Burns Flat, OK. It was here that he met and married Sharron Gilbert and to this union one daughter was born Taressa. After Clinton Sherman Air Force Base he was transferred to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. In Montana, he met Loretta DuPaul and to this union four children were born, Larry James, Tammy, Michael, Andrew. During his military career, he advanced to the ranks of Captain. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he continued working as a fire fighter at Malmstrom Air Force Base as a civilian. After leaving Malmstrom Air Force Base, he continued working as a fire fighter in Elizabeth City, NC. He served as a fire fighter for over 30 years before he transitioned into fire and safety in the oil and gas industry in Alaska. Larry retired in 2008 and made his home in White Sulphur Springs, Montana and in 2021, Larry moved to Elk City, OK to chase better weather and to be closer to his daughter Taressa.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles in the mountains. He also loved playing card games and dominoes. Larry was extremely intelligent and was always working on building and designing some kind of project. He was very sociable and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Monty Walker, and sister Francis Weaver and brother-in-law Howard Weaver.

Larry is survived by his five children Taressa Walker of Elk City, OK; Larry James Shearin of Wasilla, AK, Tammy Shearin of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Shearin of Big Lake, AK, and Andrew Shearin of Big Lake, AK; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers Donald Shearin and wife Joyce of Tennessee, Bobby Shearin and wife Betty of North Carolina; sister Judy Ellis of Virginia; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
