Obituary

Kathie Jones Rios was born September 26, 1955, in Charleston, AR, to George and Mildred Jones. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 13, 2025, at the age of 69 years, 11 months, and 18 days, surrounded by her loving family.

Kathie grew up and attended school in Elk City, OK. She married Rogelio Rios on November 26, 1973, and was the mother of 9 children. She was a stay-at-home mom until January 1992, when she began taking college classes at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. School is something she held in high value and instilled in her children. While she was attending college, she wrote articles for the college newspaper, was trained in CPR and emergency first aid, and earned an associate degree in the science of general education.

Kathie also attended Western Oklahoma Vo-Tech school, where she earned completion certificates in business and computer programs. While at Vo-Tech, she earned awards in perfect attendance, outstanding attitude, and outstanding student. She served as Chaplain for the Phi Beta Lambda chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America club. As Chaplain, she was looked to for inspiration, enlightenment, and encouragement.  She also served on multiple committees, such as organizing a class project which provided food baskets for needy families during Thanksgiving. Not only was school something she took pride in, but most of all, she held value in her relationship with the Lord.

During her adult life, Kathie was very involved in her church, where she held various positions, including Sunday School Clerk, church reporter, pianist, congregational song leader, and primary adult Sunday school teacher. She also wrote the church's newsletter for many years. She was the type of woman who loved serving others.

Kathie's favorite pastimes were crocheting personal items for her family and spending time with loved ones. She enjoyed every family gathering and quality time with her children and grandchildren, being the best Nana they could ask for. She liked to listen to music; her favorite was contemporary Christian and songs from the early sixties.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Rogelio Rios, one son, one daughter, one grandson, three brothers, one sister, three nieces, and one nephew.

Kathie is survived by her children, Robert Rios, Richard Rios, and Sara Wood of Elk City.  Lolita Hackworth and husband Danny of Austin, AR, Angelita Rodriquez and husband Rodolfo of Madisonville, TX, Elaina Rios and Fiancé Jason Simpson of Clinton, OK; 20 grandchildren and many more great grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
