J.R. Spitz

Leonard Anthony Spitz Jr. was born December 25th, 1942 to Margrete (Schones) and Leonard A. Spitz, Sr. He passed away on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Leonard, known by all as "J.R.", grew up in the St. Francis community where he attended school. After the closing of the school he transferred to Canute where he graduated in 1960. After graduation he obtained his mechanic certification and enlisted in the National Guard. He later met a woman by the name of Bobbie at a country social. Over the next year their relationship grew and they were married on December 4th, 1965 at Holy Family Church. They made their home south of Canute where they raised their family and continue to live. J.R. worked at Midwest Farm Supply as a mechanic and service manager. It was during this time he also pursued his love of farming by way of cattle, custom swathing and baling. In 1984 he furthered his love of agriculture by purchasing what came to be known as "The Feed Lot". He continued to own and supervise its operation while the women in his life did what they wanted until recently. He also enjoyed hunting, tinkering on tractor projects with "neighbor Bob", and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jeffrey Kupka; sister, Jeanette Crawford and husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Minard McAdams; great niece, Ali Grace Crawford.

J.R. is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of the home; 2 daughters, Julie Kupka, Canute, OK and Jean Kates and husband, Chris, Edmond, OK; 4 grandchildren, Kylie Broadbent and husband, Shane, Alisha Kupka, Amber Kupka, and Josh Kupka; 2 great grandchildren, McKena and Brayson Broadbent; one sister, Joan McAdams and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
