Joyce Maxine Simon was born January 24th, 1934 in Teague, Texas to Annie Viola (Allen) and Walter Herman Pope. She passed away at her home in Elk City, Oklahoma on Sunday, July 27th, 2026 at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 3 days.
Joyce married Vincent Leo Simon on November 22, 1950 in Clayton, New Mexico. In the late 1950's, after her husband was discharged from the United States Army. They moved to Stinnett, Texas and later settled in Pampa, Texas. Even while raising four kids, Joyce worked countless hours helping her parish, St. Vincent's in Pampa, quilting with friends, and serving community organizations.
She and her husband bought Pampa Office Supply in 1975. Joyce managed the store for many years and enjoyed her involvement with Altrusa Club, the Downtown Business Association, and the Chamber of Commerce.
In the early 2000's, Joyce retired to the family farm in Elk City, Oklahoma. Joyce enjoyed nothing more than helping family and friends to decorate their homes and create beautiful flower arrangements. It wasn't an odd sight to catch a glimpse of Joyce on a mower, tractor, or swinging a weedeater because she loved being outdoors.
After Vincent's, passing, she became a volunteer at the St. Matthew Food Bank. She had found another way to serve others and she gained many new friendships along the way. Joyce's life was a testament to her love, service, and joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, Vincent; sister, Willie Houser; and one brother, Jack Pope.
Joyce is survived by her 4 children, Beverly Bowen and husband, Cecil, Burnet, TX; Barbara Stach and husband, Steve, Leander, TX, Bill Simon and wife, Robin, Elk City, OK, and Sissy Curtis and husband, Jackie, Horseshoe, TX; 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Billy Pope, Victoria, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family request memorial donations be made to the St. Matthew Food Bank, 3001 East State Highway 66, Elk City, OK 73644.
