It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Lynn Pruitt, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, who left us on September 15, 2026. Joseph was born on August 18, 1969, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Joel Ray and Shirley Welch Pruitt. His parents, along with his sister Connie Ann Pruitt (Hall), preceded him in death and are now reunited with him in peace.
Known to those who loved him as Jody, his life was filled with love, laughter, and devotion to his family. He leaves behind his wife, Lori, of 27 years, who stood by his side since their wedding day on August 7, 1999. Together, they built a life and raised a loving family, including their cherished children: Kenneth Ray Pruitt; Chantell Rose Williams and husband, Blake; Katie Brooke Spillers and husband, Raine; Justin Colt Pruitt; Amber Jo Pruitt; and Erin Nicole Pruitt.
Jody’s legacy lives on through his 15 grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride, as well as the many nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws who were fortunate to call him family.
A graduate of Elk City High School, Jody pursued his passion for craftsmanship by earning his certification in welding. His career was as diverse as his interests, including serving as a dedicated police officer and working as a skilled trucker. His commitment to his work, his community, and especially his family was evident throughout his life.
Jody enjoyed the simple things that made life good—fishing, riding horses across the open fields, shooting guns, spending time with family, and sharing plenty of laughter along the way. He was known for never meeting a stranger, and his warmth and friendliness left an impression on the people he encountered. He understood the value of family and friendship and was fortunate to have many friends throughout his life.
Some of Jody’s greatest joy came from being with his grandchildren. He loved getting down and playing right alongside them, becoming a kid again himself. Those moments brought him back to the years spent playing with and raising his own children, whom he loved so deeply. Family was at the heart of Jody’s life, and the love he had for his children and grandchildren could be seen in the happiness they brought him.
Jody was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a wonderful grandfather. He leaves behind countless memories that his family will carry with them forever. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege of loving him.
More than anything, Jody added laughter and love to the lives of those around him. His family will remember the good times, the laughter they shared, and the countless memories made together. He lived a good life, and he was deeply loved.
A service to honor and celebrate Jody’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 22, 2026, at Whinery Funeral Home.
