John Thomas McLemore was born on July 30, 1948, to Rudolph and Nellie Thelma (Scrivner) McLemore in Elk City, Oklahoma. He passed away on October 16, 2025, at the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 16 days.

John grew up in Elk City and attended Elk City Public Schools. On his 17th birthday, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for 10 years. During the Vietnam War, John worked as a radio operator aboard the USS Hammerhead and the USS Catfish. Following his service at sea, he became a teletype repairman and instructor before being honorably discharged in 1974.

After his military service, John returned home to Elk City. He worked for Dresser Swaco for more than a decade as a solids control specialist before taking over the family business, McLemore Sand and Topsoil, in June 1986. John drove a dump truck for many years and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft. Even after retiring from driving in 2021, he continued to operate his business until his passing.

When he wasn't working, John loved spending time with his family—especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing on the lake, and relaxing with his beloved dogs. John never met a stranger; he was known for his quick wit, big heart, and legendary storytelling. His warmth, humor, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Nellie McLemore; brother Bob and wife Wanda McLemore; sister Janelle McLemore; nephews Bullet, Terrible, and Mouse McLemore; and nephew Christopher Dew.

He is survived by his children: Jeff McLemore of Elk City, OK; Tonja Thompson and husband Jamie of Hot Springs Village, AR; and Jennifer Langley and husband Kenny of Foss, OK. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Khristian Coy and husband Chris of Elk City, OK; Micaelah Thompson and fiancée William of Hot Springs, AR; Kaitlyn Nickell and husband Jace of Clinton, OK; Madison Turner and husband Stephen of Hot Springs Village, AR; Kenney Langley Jr. and fiancé Jessie of Foss, OK; and Trak Thompson of Hot Springs Village, AR. John was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Noah Coy, Greyson Coy, Kallie Nickell, Zayden Nickell, Jagger Nickell, and Hayley Grace.

He is also survived by his sisters Karon White, Mary Dew, and Christell Sammons; special nephews Wesley White and B.B. McLemore; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.

John's life was one of service, love, and laughter—and the stories he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
