Obituary

Joel Lee Rippetoe was born November 17th, 1939 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Lillian Mae (Blankenship) and Jasper "Jap" Rippetoe. He passed away on Friday, September 26th, 2025 at his home in Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 9 days.

Joel grew up on the Rippetoe family farm south of Sayre. He attended Carter schools until his junior year when he transferred to Delhi where he graduated in 1958. After graduation he remained in Sayre where he held various jobs on the farm and around town. Joel married the love of his life on June 7th, 1959, Laveta (Waters) at Carter, Oklahoma. After their marriage, Joel and Laveta moved to Wyoming, Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma following Joel's road construction employment. They settled in Cordell, Oklahoma in 1967 where Joel owned the Borden's milk route and continued until 1977. Joel moved his family to Sayre where he became a manager at Puckett's Food Store. Joel continued with the food store until his retirement in 2015 ending a 45 year career. Joel's hobbies included watching college and professional football and baseball, farming, raising cattle, and spending time with his friends and family. He was also a long time member of the Sayre Church of Christ and his faith in Christ was demonstrated through his generosity in public and civic organizations.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 siblings, Shirley Barker, Mary Jo Cavanaugh, Phyllis Ward, Roger Rippetoe, and Larry Rippetoe; special nephew, Anthony Holland; close family friend, Kenneth Carter.

Joel is survived by his wife of 66 years, Laveta, of the home; 3 children, Teresa Goughan and husband, Chip, Corinth, TX, Dana Anderson and husband, Greg, Edmond, OK, and Brian Rippetoe and wife, Kelly, Arlington, TX; 6 grandchildren, Taylor Noland and husband, Eric, Aaron Goughan, Clayton Anderson and wife, Rachel, Stephen Goughan, Brianna Cartwright and husband, Joe, and Kelton Rippetoe; 4 great grandchildren, Pan, Narumi, Vera-Mae, and Holden; 7 siblings, Gary Rippetoe, Pat Simpson, Kathy Moore, J.B. Rippetoe, Jan Helling, Sharon Jones, and Martheia Simpson and a host of other relatives and friends.
