Jim LaFarlette was born December 9th, 1947 in Russellville, Arkansas to Dortha (Kirby) and James Burl LaFarlette. He passed away at the Clinton, Oklahoma Veterans Center on Thursday, June 1st, 2023 at the age of 75 years, 5 months, and 23 days.

Jim grew up in Russellville, Arkansas where he attended school. Before his high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Army on December 27th, 1965. He completed his basic combat training at Ft. Polk, Louisiana and his artillery training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. In May of 1966 he was stationed in German and also Georgia before being deployed to VietNam in February of 1967. Throughout this enlistment he completed British Jungle Warfare School and also Combat Tracker School before receiving an honorable discharge in August of 1968. Jim reenlisted into the United States Army in January of 1969 where he was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and received missile training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He was deployed back to Germany for a second time in September of 1975 before concluding his career with a second honorable discharge at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma in October of 1977.

Jim's civilian life found him first with the Lawton Police Department where he obtained the rank of Master Officer and then with the Elk City Police Department in 1982. At the Elk City Police Department, Jim held various positions at motorcycle officer, field training officer, and detective that spanned a 20 years career before his retirement on November 15th, 2002. After retirement, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, his horses, anything to do with the outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Carpenter; brother, J.H. LaFarlette; 1 nephew, Kenneth Carpenter.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patsy, of the home; children, Greg LaFarlette and wife, Christa, Florida; James Burl "J.B." LaFarlette, III and wife, Debbie, North Port, FL, Randi Nicole Hust and husband, Markus, Elk City, OK, Amy Jean Rathbun and husband, John, Crandall, TX, and Darla Rae Sloan and husband, Jason, Elk City, OK; 12 grandchildren, Mitchell, Ben, Isabelle, Nicholas, Ella, J.J., Tayler, Kinley, Colt, Harley Jean, Cale, and Cullen and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Traditions Hospice and the Clinton VA Center and the staff of the North Wing for the exceptional care given to Jim.
