Obituary

Jewel Fern Wolfe was born June 11th, 1937 in Wood County, Texas to Hazel Harriett (Elledge) and Calvin Riley Haggard. She passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 23 days.

Jewel moved to various towns all over Texas while her father was a share cropper during her childhood. She moved with her family to South Plains, Texas in January of her sophomore year and attended Floydada High School where she graduated in 1955. After graduation she worked at the hospital in Lockney, Texas for two years and then moved to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1957. In early 1958 she met a gentleman by the name of Bill Wolfe and they were later married in May of 1959.

Together, Jewel and Bill remained in Elk City where they made their home and Jewel was employed by the Elk City Community Hospital as the Medical Record Librarian. She later worked in a medical clinic for three doctors over the next 9 years until switching career directions and working for the City of Elk City in the Water Department. In the 1970's, she found employment with Oklahoma Natural Gas Company where she remained for 25 years until her retirement.

In 2000, Jewel and Bill formally retired where they both enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, working in their yard, and spending time with their family and friends. Jewel was a member of the 2nd & Adams Church of Christ where she could also be found teaching a Sunday School class and when she was unable to teach she continued to enjoy working with the ladies in the card ministry.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, June Thomas, Wanda Haggard, and Violet Caylor.

Jewel is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bill, of the home; 2 children, Jim Wolfe and wife, Kim, Raymondville, MO and Kelli Malm and husband, Ron, Augusta, KS; 8 grandchildren, Brittany Lewallen and husband, Dakota, Bailey Malm, Hayden Wolfe, Dawson Wolfe, Logan Malm, Hannah Wolfe, MacKenzie Wolfe, and Reagan Wolfe; 3 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
