James Herbert Oren Jr. was born on January 6, 1941 to James Herbert and Lorene (Stone) Oren in Erick, OK. He passed on January 10, 2026 at the age of 85 years and 4 days.

James grew up south of Erick in the breaks along with his siblings Johnny, Ellen, Stone, Charlie, Barbara, Kenneth, and Mona. He attended Texola Schools until his senior year and graduated at Erick High School in 1959. In 1961,James enlisted in the Army. He served in the infantry and was stationed in Alaska. In 1963 he was transferred to the Army Reserves in Fort Lewis, Washington. After being honorably discharged, he moved back to Erick where he worked as a welder for Chicago Bridge and Iron. On May 30, 1969, James married Judy Johnson and to this union two sons were born Steve and Greg. He began working as an independent contractor for his welding business and running his ranch. He raised cattle and broke horses. James enjoyed breaking horses and would adopt wild mustangs and break them in his spare time. In his younger days he also liked to fish and hunt quail.

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy Oren, parents James and Lorene Oren, brothers Johnny and Kenneth, sisters Ellen and Mona,

James is survived by his sons Steve Oren and wife Betty of Tuscon, AZ and Greg Oren and wife Crystal of Erick, OK; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brothers Stone Oren and wife Mary of Erick, OK and Charlie Oren of Shamrock, TX; sister Barbara Oren of Amarillo, TX; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
