Harold Gene Hopkins was born July 2nd, 1940 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Ila Mae (Hasty) and Clyde Brown Hopkins. He passed away in Elk City, Oklahoma on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 28 days.

Harold grew up in Elk City where he attended school. He graduated in 1958 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University for a couple semesters before joining and serving in the United States Air Force for several years. During his time of service, he was stationed overseas in England as well as Tinker Air Force Base. He was married to Wanda (Carter) on April 19th, 1966 and welcomed 3 daughters and 2 sons to their family. The family spent several years moving from Oklahoma to Colorado and back before settling in Carter, Oklahoma. Harold was later married to Beverly (Holmes) on June 7th, 1986 and they remained in Oklahoma and Harold returned to college where he received his bachelor's degree from Southern Nazarene University. Together they moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia where they remained and raised their family for the better part of 15 years. In 1999 they returned to Midwest City, Oklahoma where Harold formally retired and spent time volunteering as the OFATD at the Oklahoma History Center. Harold was a gifted singer and used his voice to bring joy to those around him, many of these songs he made on the fly. He was an avid reader, who enjoyed daily crosswords and was also hailed as a Trivial Pursuit champion.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Lance Hopkins; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Poppell and husband, Dayton; and one sister, Evolena Neeley.

Harold is survived by his wife, Beverly, of the home; 3 children, Lisa Balcer and husband, Eric, Woodward, OK, Lana Porter and husband, Ronnie, Carter, OK, and Larry Hopkins and wife, Jacki, Yukon, OK; 10 grandchildren, Weston Hininger and wife Laci, Sydnie Balcer, Kaden Balcer, Lindsay Porter, Jamie Suthers and husband Destry, Jared Porter and wife Trisha, Quaid Reeves, Bonnie Anderson and husband Dalton, Cassie Hopkins, and Daphne Millspaugh; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 3 sisters, Nelda Breimeir and husband, Jack, Leann Blackmon and husband, Gary, and Linda Bryan and husband, Grant and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and grand-dogs.
