George H. "Buddy"
Suthers
Jul 21, 1944 — Jun 11, 2026
George Harry Suthers was born July 21st, 1944 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Reba Fae (Shields) and George William Suthers. He passed away Thursday, June 11th, 2026 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 21 days.
George, known by most as "Buddy" grew up on the family ranch Southwest of Arnett, Oklahoma where he attended school graduating in 1962. After graduating, he attended Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma for two years before transferring to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma to complete his degree in agriculture. It was during this time that he met Lynnie Merrick from Crawford, Oklahoma and they were later married on August 20th 1967. After their marriage while Lynnie was finishing college, Buddy became the assistant beef herdsman for Oklahoma State University.
In 1968 Buddy moved to Sayre, Oklahoma where he began managing the horse breeding operation for his father-in-law on the Merrick 14 Ranch East of Sayre and Lynnie later joined after graduating from OSU. They also began their family with the birth of Destry in 1970 and later in 1976 with Ben. With the rise of Easy Jet in the quarter horse racing industry, Buddy and Lynnie worked side by side for over 30 years managing all aspects of the operation and elevating the Merrick genetics to the highest level of the sport.
Buddy held the position of assistant city manager for the city of Sayre from 2000 to 2004. Buddy and Lynnie had begun attending Trinity Fellowship in the early 1990's and in 2004, Buddy was called full time to the ministry. As Trinity Fellowship's administrative pastor, Buddy handled many aspects including buildings, property, insurance, maintenance and many other items. He was known for his attention to detail and always finishing the job in a spirit of excellence. He loved spreading God's message and helping others no matter what their situation was.
Buddy loved roping in his younger years and the western way of life. He was an integral part of assisting at the annual Trinity Camp of Champions. He had a passion for raising "good horses" and would market the offspring at annual yearling sales. Buddy was always supporting his grandkids and was an avid OKC Thunder fan.
