Obituary

Gary Eugene Kirk was born on September 16, 1959 to Gordon Eugene and Ella Pearl (Martin) Kirk in Elk City, OK. He passed on March 16, 2026 in Elk City at the age of 66 years and 6 months.

Gary grew up in the Grimes, Spitzer Rd and Cheyenne area. He attended Cheyenne schools and graduated with the class of 1977. He began his work life working on the family farm helping his dad and grandad. He also helped his dad in the wrecker service and auto repair shop. He also ran a dozer for JW Little Dozer Service. Gary enjoyed raising and breaking his own donkeys and horses. In his younger years, he worked as a rough neck and operated a lay down machine for his uncle Wallace Kirk. Gary spent time on the Cheyenne Fire Department and Ambulance Service , establishing the Jaws of Life and first rescue unit as Civil Defense Director. He also worked at the United Postal Service as a mail carrier. After the postal service, he went to work for Charles Baker on the dairy farm. Gary always said he had a masters in "Jack of All Trades". He also ran many of his own businesses. These included running a service station in Cheyenne, Rook Theater, and a lawn care service called Gary's Grass Shortening Service. Gary always prioritized God in his life and being a member of a church was always a common thread. He was a member of the Cheyenne First United Methodist Church and Sayre First United Methodist Church. Gary always said the joy of his life was being a member of God's family. He wrote commentaries for the church newsletters and Facebook. He continued to do this until 2023. He only stopped writing because he lost the ability to see.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Ella Pearl Kirk, grandparents Elmo and Freeda Kirk and Edward and Iva Pearl Martin, and two infant sisters.

Gary is survived by his two brothers Ronald Kirk and wife Nena of Cheyenne, OK; Calvin Kirk and wife Dusti of Cheyenne, OK; three nephews Austin Kirk, Conner Kirk, and Caleb Kirk; niece Abby Green; three great nephews, one great niece and a host of extended family and friends.
