Frank D. Lovett

October 18th, 1936 – January 12th, 2026

Frank Lovett, a devoted husband and father, an accomplished petroleum geologist, and lifelong lover of the outdoors, passed away on January 12th, 2026, at the age of 89.

He was born on October 18th, 1936, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Jesse Vern Lovett and Nettie Mae (Howard) Lovett. In his early years, Frank grew up in a small two-room house on the "East Creek" of the family ranch, located four miles northeast of Roll, Oklahoma. His parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life, including riding horses, driving tractors and helping with ranch work—experiences that shaped his character and lifelong love of the land. He attended Breezy Meadow Grade School and later Crawford High School, where his curiosity and determination continued to grow.

Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Janet R. (Calvert) Lovett, to whom he was devoted throughout their long marriage. He was a loving father to Steve Lovett (wife Ann) and Cindy Coffman (husband Steve), proud grandfather to Katlyn Martin (husband Adam), Mark Coffman, Scott Lovett, Kyle Lovett, Jessica Tolan (husband Scott), and Cassidy Drgac (husband Dylan), and a cherished great-grandfather to Trent, Truett, and Tess Martin.

He is survived by his brothers, Tom Lovett (wife Kay) and Terry Lovett (wife Susan), along with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

Frank earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Oklahoma. He devoted his entire professional career to the petroleum industry, becoming a highly respected and successful petroleum geologist. His work took him across Wyoming, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas, with much of his career focused on discovering oil and gas deposits in the Colorado Rockies, the Texas Gulf Coast, and the Louisiana Atchafalaya Basin. During his career, Frank was primarily responsible for the discovery of numerous oil fields, leaving a lasting professional legacy.

A lifelong lover of rocks and geology, Frank delighted in sharing his knowledge with others, especially his grandchildren, encouraging curiosity and learning at every opportunity. He also cherished the great outdoors, particularly elk hunting in northern Colorado. In his later years, he was known for his friendly nature and gift for conversation, happily striking up discussions with anyone, anytime, anywhere. Above all, Frank was especially attentive and devoted to his wife Jan, caring for her with steadfast love throughout their life together.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19th, 2026, at the First Methodist Church in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. A reception and meal will follow at the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Silent Home Cemetery in Roll, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Methodist Church of Cheyenne or to a charity of one's choice.

Frank's life was one of purpose, kindness, and deep connection to those around him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
