Obituary

Emory Lawrence Archer, Jr. was born August 1st, 1927 near the Three Corners community in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Vida Mae (Leddy) and Emory Lawrence Archer, Sr. He passed away Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Emory, known by most as "E.L.", grew up attending schools at Three Corners, Red Star, Strong City, and Cheyenne until the 10th grade when he joined the United States Navy at the end of World War II. After his discharge he returned to Sayre where he completed his junior and senior years graduating in 1947. It was during his senior year that he was married to Addie Belle (Shelton) in Sayre, Oklahoma on September 28th, 1946. They made their home in Sayre where they raised their family except for a short period of time spent in Colorado. E.L. furthered his education at Sayre Junior College and delivered furniture in the western Oklahoma area. He later found employment with the United States Postal service where he carried mail before starting his career in insurance. E.L. served as an agent and a district manager for Modern Woodman of America Fraternal Organization. He remained with Modern Woodman Insurance Company for the better part of 12 years exclusively until branching out and serving as a broker for other agencies. E.L. continued in the industry even after Addie passed away in 2013, but evolved to group and cancer policies. E.L. later married Faye (Youngblood) in Wheeler, Texas on October 14th, 2016 and they made their home in Elk City. He later retired and spent his time tending to his rental properties. He enjoyed gardening, raising fruit, fishing, hunting, and raising cattle. E.L. could most times be seen around town and always had a kind word for everyone he came in contact with.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Addie Belle; son-in-law, James Bob Skaggs; 1 grandson, Loren Todd Skaggs; 1 infant brother, Charles Archer; and 3 sisters, Virginia Archer, Lavona Archer, and Freda Coffey.
