Obituary

Monta Dirk Clay was born October 19th, 1956 in Pampa, Texas to Willie Pearl (Swift) and Coy Andrew Clay. He passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 at the age of 66 years and 6 months.

As a young child, Dirk lived in Andrews, Texas and moved with his family to Shamrock, Texas in 1966. He continued to attend Shamrock schools until 1973 when he transferred to Lubbock Christian High School graduating in 1975. Shortly after graduation he was married and to this union 2 children were born, Brianna and Rodney. After their marriage they briefly lived in Shamrock before moving to Lubbock where Dirk attended Sunset School of Preaching and received his certification in deaf ministries in 1980. He moved his family to Big Springs, Texas where he continued his ministry preaching for the deaf. They later moved to San Angelo, Texas where he began his career with UPS that spanned many years. Dirk returned to Shamrock, Texas where he received his Bachelors of Theology from Bear Valley Bible Institute. After Dirk's parents passed, Dirk cared for his brother, Coy Don Clay for 4 years. In the early 2000's, Dirk moved to Sayre, Oklahoma where he found employment with Whinery Funeral Service. Throughout Dirk's life his passion was leading singing for worship services, gospel meetings, and even traveling to other congregations. For the past few years Dirk was traveling to the Erick Church of Christ to lead singing. He also enjoyed playing golf, going to concerts, collecting Bibles, and always being sharply dressed.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Coy Don Clay.

Dirk is survived by 2 children, Rodney Clay, San Angelo, TX and Brianna Horner and husband, Brady, Abilene, TX; 2 grandchildren, Layla and Paxton Horner, also of Abilene, TX; one sister, Barbara Betenbough and husband, Vin, Millsap, TX; 2 nieces, Angie Wilson and Sherri Merchant and husband, Jonathan; 2 great nieces, Avery and Peyton Wilson and a host of other relatives, church family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 24th, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Sayre Church of Christ officiated by Billy Clabaugh. Burial will follow at Shamrock, Texas Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
