In that time he earned a Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Medal, and a Rifle Sharp Shooter Badge. After serving in the military, Gerald moved to California and lived there for several years working in a wide variety of jobs that took him all across the world. Later in life he moved to Altus, OK and worked at Altus Air Force Base as a mechanic on the C-17 planes, while in Altus, he met and married Kathy Smith. After retiring, due to health reasons, they moved to Leedey, OK to make their home. Gerald loved and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and had a very caring heart and soul. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
