David Wayne Mitchell was born November 12th, 1958, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Naomi Aileen (Hood) and Jerry Lee Mitchell. He passed away in Mangum, Oklahoma on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 22 days.

David grew up around Perkins, Oklahoma, where he graduated High School in 1977. After graduation, he found employment with various places including Oklahoma State University in the heat and air department. It was during this time he met Karen Sue (Patten) and later married on August 2nd, 1981. After their marriage, they made their home in Stillwater, Oklahoma where they began their family with the birth of their son in 1985. Shortly after, he moved his family to the Willow, Oklahoma community.

In 1990, they welcomed their daughter, and David obtained employment with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. He worked in Granite Reformatory, then the Mangum Work Center until its closing, and returned to Granite Reformatory until his retirement on January 1st, 2024. David was very mechanically inclined and could keep an old vehicle running for years. He loved working on cars, riding motorcycles, watching the History Channel with his beloved basset hound "Ladybird", and playing golf when the weather permitted.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

David is survived by his wife, Karen, of Willow, OK; 2 children, Heath Mitchell and wife, Karley, Blanchard, OK and Hayley Gibson and husband, Jason, Madrid, Spain; 2 grandchildren, Lane Mitchell and Naomi "Sissy" Mitchell; 1 brother, Tony Mitchell, Cushing, OK and his child, Jessie Mitchell and son, Parker Inkman, Broken Arrow, OK, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
