David Frank Kamphaus was born May 30th, 1941 at the family farm southwest of Burns Flat, Oklahoma to Pauline (Mahl) and Franklin George Kamphaus. He passed away in Edmond, Oklahoma on Thursday, May 29th, 2025 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 29 days.

David grew up in Burns Flat, Oklahoma where he attended and graduated from high school. After graduation, knowing he was going to be drafted, enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Vietnam stationed in Saigon Tan Son Nhut Air Base. Davids' service spanned from August of 1963 until he was honorably discharged in August of 1966.

Upon returning to the United States, he began attending Central State College where he met and later married Barbara Elaine (Burkett) in 1969. Together they moved to Guthrie until he received his bachelors degree in science. They later moved to Enid, Oklahoma where they began their family with the birth of their oldest son, David Dwight. David and Barbara moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where he began working on his masters degree in speech pathology. After receiving his master's from Phillips University they moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma where their family continued to grow with the birth of their youngest son, Craig Allen.

In 1978, David moved his family to Sulphur, Oklahoma where he became the superintendent at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf and continued there until 1981. It was in 1981 that he returned to Edmond, Oklahoma where he continued his tenure with the State of Oklahoma working in the Department of Human Services until his retirement in the late 1990's. During his retirement, David enjoyed teaching Tia Chi and being an instructor for over 20 years. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, Dwayne and wife, Clarene Kamphaus and Paul Kamphaus.

David is survived by his 2 sons, David Dwight Kamphaus and wife, Lorri, Guthrie, OK and Craig Allen Kamphaus, Overland Park, KS; 7 grandchildren, Austin Kamphaus and wife, Diamond, Michael Bigheart and wife, Ashley, Dakota Kamphaus, David Bigheart, Jacob Bigheart, Christian Kamphaus, and Bryce Kamphaus; 2 brothers, Timothy Kamphaus and wife, Jocille, and John Kamphaus and wife, Tamara and a host of other family and friends.
