Obituary

Darrell McGee, 80, passed away on March 5, 2026, in Elk City, Oklahoma. Darrell was born on April 11, 1945, in Sugar Grove, Arkansas, to Johnnie Faye (Graham) McGee and Wallace Wade McGee.

He attended school in Elk City, Oklahoma, until the sixth grade before moving with his family to Berlin, Oklahoma. After finishing school, Darrell began a long career driving semi-trucks. Over the years he worked for Garland Hinkle of Sayre, Oklahoma, drove a cement truck for Joe Bradly of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, and later finished his career working for Alan Thompson. Truck driving was more than just a job to Darrell—it was the work he dedicated many years of his life to.

On June 29, 1968, Darrell married the love of his life, Donna Sue Dunlap. Together they made their home in Sayre, Oklahoma, where they built a life surrounded by family and friends. Darrell enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved fishing, watching basketball and football games on television, and rarely turned down a good cold Mountain Dew. He was well known for having a sweet tooth and for spending time with his family. Darrell especially enjoyed supporting his nieces and nephews at their sporting events. Those who knew him also knew him by his nicknames, "Doc" and "Sweet Lips."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Faye and Wallace Wade McGee; his wife, Donna Sue McGee; his brothers, Charles McGee, Tommy McGee of Ola, Arkansas, and Larry McGee of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; and his brother-in-law, Earl Schofield of Opp, Alabama.

Darrell is survived by his sisters, Charlene Schofield of Opp, Alabama, and Donna and Frank Presley of Booneville, Arkansas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will cherish his memory.
