Darrel Dean Heinsohn was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Lorraine Baker. After his mother's death when he was 8, he and his younger sister Glenda lived with his older sister, Elsie and her husband, Floyd Langley. He attended several different schools including Cheyenne where he loved playing basketball. He moved to and attended Sweetwater High School where he met the love of his life, Kathy (Fowler) Heinsohn. After graduation in 1968 he volunteered for the draft and proudly served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne division as a combat soldier. DRIVE ON!

Darrel and Kathy were married in Sweetwater on August 27th, 1970. They worked along side each other for 55 years - farming, raising pigs and cattle, dairying and creating a perfect home for their three babies - so said the kids! In his late 40's he went back to college and earned his degree in wildlife biology and proudly worked a summer in Alaska.

Darrel had a special relationship with God that was simple and true. He was a quiet and gentle man who had a heart for others and most especially for his kids. He was their provider, protector and their hero! His grandkids loved him and he loved them so much. They enjoyed the mountain trips, funny stories, working together, gardening, and a little Major Pain and Dennis the Menace every now and then. His great grands had a special place in his heart. They brought him lots of hugs, smiles, and laughter.

He is preceded in death by his mom, Lorraine Baker; two brothers, Carl and Billy Heinsohn; one sister, Elsie Langley; father and mother-in-law, E.L. and Wilma Fowler.

Remembering him always and living his legacy are his wife, Kathy Heinsohn; 2 daughters, Tess and Bryan Markham, Wheeler, TX and Jamie and Danny Teel, Hammon, OK; 1 son, Tyler Heinsohn, Sweetwater, OK; 11 grandchildren, Cody and Kala Teel, Clay and McKenzie Teel and Corbin and Cherokee, Ky, Paden and fiance, Steleigh and Holt Markham, Kadence Mundy, Wylie and Gabrielle Heinsohn, and Emma and River Heinsohn; 9 great grandchildren. His youngest sister, Glenda Coffe, Muscle Sholls, AL; 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Char Bonham, Vikki Fowler, Doug and Gay Fowler and Jill and Kenny Drake.

We want to welcome family and friends to a public visitation honoring our dad on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. at the Whinery Funeral Service and Cremation Center Chapel. A private family graveside will be held at Buffalo Cemetery. We know there are many friends and family that loved and respected our husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather and know that this is the way he would want to be honored. We will all miss him so much, but we are thankful for all the loving memories he gave us. We will always live to honor him.

In lieu of flowers you can honor Darrel by donating to the Sweetwater Baptist Church Youth Group.
