Dale Alan Smith was born September 29th, 1960 in Gallup, New Mexico to Donna Lou (Johnson) and John Thomas Smith, Jr. He passed away Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 at his home in Berlin, Oklahoma at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 26 days. Dale grew up in Bison, Oklahoma, Charleston and Mulberry, Arkansas. He graduated from Mulberry High School in 1979 and entered the United States Air Force where he served during peacetime and was stationed at George Air Force Base in California. After his discharge, he returned to Mulberry, Arkansas where he began his own lawn business. He moved to the Rogers and Springdale, Arkansas area where he worked for Tyson Foods. During his employment with Tyson Foods as a supervisor, he detected an ammonia leak and was responsible for getting everyone to safety. For his actions he received national recognition for his heroic efforts. In the late 90's he began working at Emerson Electronics where he was a machine operator and also a supervisor until 2004. It was then that he returned to Oklahoma where he worked for Dolese and Enertech before an accident forced his retirement. In May of 2013 he was married to Cheryl Ruth (Shields) in Elk City, Oklahoma. After their marriage they built a house and moved to the Berlin community. Dale always enjoyed collecting stamps, metal sculptures, hunting, fishing and attending flea markets. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Dale is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of the home; 1 son, Dale Smith, Jr., Norman, OK; his mother, Donna Griffee and husband, Lee Griffee, Elk City, OK; 1 sister, Dora Martindale and husband, Jim, Elk City, OK; brother-in-law, Brock Shields, Wagoner, OK; nephew, Michael Shields, Wagoner, OK; nieces and nephews, Jamie Long, and husband, Aaron, Donna Martindale and fiancee` Brian Myers; Jessica Carnes and husband, Randy, Alycia Martindale and finance`, Matthue Tiller; special friend, Darrell James and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial Services will be held at the Field of Dreams on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West.
