Charles Lee Shafer was born September 5th, 1961 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Helen Ruth (Jones) and Ira Lee Shafer. He passed away on Sunday, October 8th, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 3 days.

Charles, known by most as "Charlie" by his friends and "Poppy" to his family, grew up in Amarillo, Texas where he attended school. After his schooling he found employment in the construction industry. Later on, Charlie found his niche as a mechanic in the oil and natural gas industry. He met Glinda "Ashley" in early 1994 and married on December, 1994 in Washington. Soon after they moved back to Sayre. Charlie started working for Rowan Drilling company in 2000 and stopped working for them in 2011. He went to work for Roy Varnell Jr. in 2018 and worked for him until he retired in September of 2023. Charlie enjoyed going to the river, driving his Jeep, dancing, and playing bowling on his computer.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Barbara Susan Shafer.

Charlie is survived by 2 step daughter's Sheila Herrington and husband, Ray, Sayre, OK and Carrie Horton and husband, Shelton, Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Krystal Foote and family, Cade Herrington and family, William Herrington and family, Justin White, Jessica Horton and family, Jacob Horton and family; 3 sisters, Patricia Hamilton and husband Ken, Laura Weatherstine and husband, Rick, and Jeanette Shafer; 1 brother, Jack Shafer and wife, Judy and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
