Bruce Carper Hartman was born September 23, 1934 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Mabel and Mark Hartman. He passed away January 17, 2023 at his home, The Veraden Senior Living Center in Edmond, OK at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 25 days.

Bruce graduated from Berlin High School in May of 1952, where he lettered in basketball and baseball. After graduation, he continued working on the family farm. On January 25, 1953, he married Della Faye Bartz. They made their home on the farm west of Berlin for 22 years where they raised their children Dawn and Scott. Both children were actively involved in Sayre School activities, including sports and various activities through 4-H Club/FFA. They enjoyed playing cards with neighbors, were members of a square-dancing club where he was a caller and they attended Berlin and Sayre Baptist churches. He served as one of the song leaders at Berlin Baptist Church, the Berlin School Board, the Sayre Farmers CO-OP Gin Board and was active in the Berlin Saddle Club.

In May, 1979, he married Phyllis Nagle. Phyllis and two of her children, Teresa and Gary moved from Elk City to join him on the farm. Throughout the next years, they actively followed and supported school activities where Teresa and Gary participated. Later, as empty nesters, they moved to the home place north of Sayre. When Phyllis retired, she joined Bruce to run cattle and manage the farm. They enjoyed gardening, following grandchildren school activities and attending the Sayre Baptist Church. Bruce enjoyed the outdoors and tending to his farm animals, especially his trusted four-legged companions, Pepper and Starky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stan and wife of 31 years, Phyllis.

Those left to miss him include his daughter, Dawn Hartman Allums (Marvin); son, Scott Hartman (Lisa); daughter, Jacque Heine (Ron); daughter, Cindy Holly (Jerry); daughter, Teresa Shelton (Bill); son, Gary Nagle (Kay).

Bruce is lovingly remembered as "PaPa" by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Preston Hartman (Kerry) – James, Leo & Eliza; Autumn Hartman; Brandon Shelton – James (Londyn) & Emily; Amanda Watson (Blake) – Renna & Bryce; Adriane Winfield (Chris) – Avery, Peyton & Jacob; Mallory Poe (Paul) – Addison, Tucker, Brent & Cooper; Mason Holly (Katelan) - Hudson; Ashton Crews (Jason) – Karson, Kinadee & Walter; Makenzy Ellis (Derrick) - Lucas; Madison Nagle; Wyatt Nagle and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Sayre, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Berlin Cemetery under the care of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
