Billy Joe Eakins was born September 18th, 1955 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Betty Lorraine (Dow) and Curtis Joe Eakins. He passed away at his home in Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 20 days. Billy grew up in the Elk City and Hammon areas. He attended Elk City schools graduating in 1973. While in high school he found employment and worked for Mr. Wilson being a farm hand. He later joined the United States Air Force and served stateside as a jet mechanic while being stationed at Ft. Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, and an airman with Squadron 3704 flight 597 while stationed in San Antonio, Texas. After his discharge he returned to Elk City and working for Mr. Wilson. In 1979 he met a woman by the name of Jane Bashaw in Martin, South Dakota on wheat harvest and they were later married on March 20th, 1980 in Elk City, Oklahoma. After their marriage they purchased homes in Enid, Oklahoma, Carrollton, Texas where Billy worked as a security officer. In 1989 they returned to Sayre and then to the Merritt community to make their home. He worked 10 plus years as a Lieutenant with the Oklahoma State Department of Corrections. Billy always enjoyed working, but in his spare time he could be found on the farm camping and spending time with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Michael Eakins. Billy is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home; 2 children, Zadie Eakins, Elk City, OK and Curtis Eakins, Heavener, OK; 4 grandchilden, Zack, Makenzie, Caydance, and Caylee; 1 brother, George Eakins and wife, Tessie, Carrollton, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends. Bill has always loved animals. The family suggest donations be made to Elk City Animal Shelter, 1022 South Main Street, Elk City, OK 73644. Private family services will be held at a later date.
