Betty Lou Elliott was born March 13th, 1943 in Cordell, Oklahoma to Leatha (Twyman) and Clyde Lee Rushing. She passed away Thursday, March 9th, 2023 at her home south of Canute, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 24 days.
Betty grew up in the Canute and Burns Flat communities. She attended school and graduated from Burns Flat High School in 1962. On December 1st, 1962 she married Marvin Ray Elliott. Together they made their home in the Canute community where they raised their 4 children. Betty found employment at Elk City Plant Farm where her love for "playing in the dirt" flourished and they eventually owned a greenhouse at their home where she sold plants. She later began her career in the food service industry by attending Francis Tuttle Vo-tech dietary program. She worked for Canute Schools, Cordell Christian Home, Elk City Nursing Home, and Clinton Regional Hospital, where she retired after 11 years serving as the dietary manager. Shortly thereafter, Betty returned to work at the Elk City Nursing Home where she happily served for the last 15 years. Betty enjoyed the outdoors and continued to fulfill her love of "playing in the dirt" through mowing, caring for the yard, and her flowerbeds.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years; 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 1 nephew.
Betty is survived by her 4 children, Sue Wallin and husband, Doug, of Elk City, OK, Tommy Elliott and companion, Jeanne Henry, of Elk City, OK, Craig Elliott and wife, Sheila, of Edmond, OK, and Dennis Elliott, of Elk City, OK; 12 grandchildren; Susan, Brandon, Kayla, Keevin, Levi, Jessica, Dustin, Aimee, Ashley, Tyler, Destanie, and Skyler. 27 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Ray Rushing, of Midwest City, OK; special cousins, Leon Williams and wife, Luada, Tommy Williams and wife, Kema, Clyde Williams, and Terrell Lamb and wife, Barbara. 3 nephews, Kevan Bence, Jeremy Rushing, and Jason Rushing, all of Oklahoma City; some very special friends, Melvin and Pete Hutson of Elk City, OK; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services wil be held Friday, March 17th 2023 at 10:00am at The Way Church officiated by Daryle Perry, Pastor Sutten Weeks, and Leon Williams. Services are under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be left online at www.classicfunerals.com
